What's this all about?

I love going to concerts and local shows, who doesn't? I've seen over a hundred bands and artists (literally) in several cities at numerous venues. When I was young it was to see my favorite artists and bands. Now that I've participated in productions, both musical and theatrical, I cant help but to constantly asses the quality of the sound, lighting, stage presence, acoustics of the venue or theater, the reactions of the crowd, crew, and performers, and so on and so forth...
Being on stage and back stage has completely altered my perception of production.
It's almost a curse: what was once my favorite pastime has now become the focus of my career.

I am creating this blog, not only for my Introduction to Marketing class at Full Sail, to take a stab at the venues and concert halls and arenas etc. we chose to attend here in Atlanta. Why? Because I think most of them can do better and some of them are fantastic. I also believe that some bands aren't meant to play some venues. It's all about atmosphere, the very reason I fell in love with music at such a young age. This blog is meant for anyone who deeply cares for this city's music scene, or anyone really cares about any place's music scene. It's meant for anyone interested in production and performance, or people who know absolutely nothing about either. This blog is for the sake of my sanity, because there's so many things I just have to say.
Most importantly, this blog is meant to open the eyes of those who attend concerts just to see their favorite band; yes, yes "they rock!" and such, but how are they live? The real talent is exposed when illuminated by dozens of lights and amplified so loud that the sound nearly knocks you over, but are the lights distracting you from their sloppy stage presence or an overall pitiful stage? And is the sound really coming from their instruments, or is that a back track? Are they about to have an Ashley Simpson lip-synch nightmare? And how old are those speakers anywa- wait, is that cable suspending the speaker broken?!
These are only some of the topics I intend to tackle.
I might anger some people, that's okay. These are simply my opinions on venues and the bands and artists who perform there. Some of them are educated opinions, some are bias. But this is a peek inside my head, my heart, my soul, and my business.
Welcome

  1. VERY cool concept you have here! I've been working as an audio engineer in Miami, FL for about 10 years now and I've worked at some very nice high-end venues....and some pretty crappy ones, too. I wish I had an opportunity, like being able to read a blog like this one, to be able to read about them before hand to see what I was getting myself into! I now know that if I ever head to ATL and am going to see a show somewhere, I should definitely check out your blog! Thanks, and great job! =)

  2. Hello Taylor,
I think your blog is a great concept. I live in Orlando and work at Full Sail, but often visit Atlanta to see family but mostly party and have fun. I believe that this a great way to plug into a new market, not only if your visiting, but if you are planing a move to a new city like Atlanta. I am looking forward to reading more from your blog, hopefully before my next trip to Atlanta.
